Somewhere there’s a Harvard grad telling others what it was like when this new website called The Facebook first launched.

You have the opportunity to one day say the same thing about a new site that launched its beta version this month in DC called Neighborsations.

A site focused on helping neighbors connect through shared interests, Neighborsations is the brainchild of first-time entrepreneur Allison Sheren. She thinks her company can help people connect online to create lasting friendships offline.

“Neighborsations is about creating stronger communities,” Sheren said. “In today’s world, we crave community, and want to know the people around us beyond a smile and a wave.”

Open only in DC to start, upon signing up you’re prompted to enter where you live, what you like to do, what you can teach to others and what you want someone else to teach you.

Soon the site will help match you with your neighbors based on either what you can teach or what you want to learn. For example, if you want to learn to make cupcakes, Neighborsations can help you find a neighbor who’s willing to teach someone to make cupcakes.

Down the road Sheren plans to expand Neighborsations to other cities. Right now, though, DC has the site all to itself.

As a bootstrapped startup, it may take a little time before Neighborsations is fully functional, but if you’re an early adopter, you know the drill: Sign up now, and you get to pick your ideal username, help inform the site’s development, and be an old pro by the time others start using the site.

In other words, if things go as Sheren plans, one day you can tell people you remember when this site called Neighborsations started in your city.

Although I’d love to love this because it has some cool concepts behind it, the best way to be social is to get off of technology and talk to people.
