Dupont Snowball Fight to be Televised… with Wine

Welcome to the second decade of the 21st Century. Nothing like TV coverage, a wine bar and legal advice (it appears) to make for a good, old-fashioned snowball fight!

  • News Channel 8 has been saying they will cover todays’ Dupont Circle snowball fight. This actually sounds like a relief from the regular around-the-clock-blizzard-coverage.
  • Apparently one of the bars or restaurants at The Dupont Hotel is setting an ice bar with wine for today’s revelers. No, they are not giving away the wine, and no, drinking in public will not be allowed. This is Dupont Circle, after all.
  • The organizers of today’s 2 p.m. snowball fight at Dupont Circle have put out a set of guidelines and warnings about today’s scheduled event. You cannot blame them since we live a society where people will litigate over most anything. (I would have done the same thing if I were organizing any type of open public event.) If you read the post, you have to assume lawyers were involved. This says something not-so-good things about our society—not the snowball fight organizers or lawyers. They’re just using common sense. Welcome to America.

Was there any sign anywhere of a Hummer cruising, gun-toting, psycho-DC cop, with a snow-ball bruised ego on the scene?

Watching the “fight” on Channel 8. They’re call a play by play of a “spontaneous snowball fight” and whining about the cold and the danger of getting hit by a snowball fight. Good grief. It’s turned into a Made for TV Movie of the Week.
