Monday morning update: Thank you to the reader who pointed us to the March 2 meeting minutes of Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 2F-Logan. Here’s the lowdown on what’s coming to 1435 P NW: ”Ed Bailey announced that he and John Guggenmos are returning to 1435 P Street, NW  and will be opening a new bar named #9.” They were part owners of Halo at the same location, before it became MOVA, and are owners of Town Danceboutique at 8th and U Streets NW.

What will replace two empty storefronts on the 1400 block of P Street? On the north side, at 1435, MOVA closed its doors a couple of months ago (though owner Babak Movahedi told Borderstan in January that he definitely plans to reopen, probably in the U Street corridor). Work is underway in the P Street space, but there are no rumors about what is coming.

On the southwest corner of the block, at 1460, McCormick Paints shut its doors last week and will reopen up north in Mount Pleasant (at 3124 Mount Pleasant Street NW). The corner location — with large street-level windows already in place — would likely make it a candidate for another restaurant or even a clothing store. We keep wondering when one of the national retailers — think Gap or Banana Republic — will set up shop somewhere in Logan Circle or along the U Street corridor.

Weren’t there supposed to be more condos at the McCormick site? Hopefully that deal fell through.

  2. Rich says:

From March’s ANC2F meeting, I saw this listed under the community announcements in the minutes on the website:

Ed Bailey announced that he and John Guggenmos are returning to 1435 P Street, NW and will be opening a new bar named #9.

The owners of Town? Yep, you’re right: Here it is from ANC 2F website: “Ed Bailey announced that he and John Guggenmos are returning to 1435 P Street, NW and will be opening a new bar named #9″

  3. Jim Stockmal says:

Oh well, maybe something good will come of this!

By the way, why did Dunkin Donuts close on 17th St? Any insight as to what will replace it?
