Reader Survey Says: 39% Walk to Work

Borderstan 15th Street NW Logan Circle

These traffic signs on 15th Street NW went up after the contraflow bike lane was installed last fall. About 6% of Borderstan readers say they bike to work while 39% commute on foot. (Borderstan)

One-third (34%) use some combination of Metro—bus, subway or a combination thereof. Only 13% drive a car to work and 3% work at home. Full results below.

Walking or bicycling to work is the best. I used to walk 1.5 miles each way to my last office downtown. It was great exercise and kept me in touch with the pulse of several neighborhoods.

I dread the thought of another commute out to the ‘burbs if future employment requires it.

Nice to see that Borderstan readers (those that can) recognize healthier and environmentally friendly modes of transportation for their daily commute.
