Even in the “well to do Dupont Circle” neighborhood, theft of Tide products runs rampant. It turns out that some drug customers are paying for their drugs in laundry detergent.

Based on the article in Yahoo! News, it seems that area CVS stores are having to put electronic tags and take security measures with  each bottle. It is a high demand item that has a relatively stable price, which apparently makes it a super sexy alternative to currency in drug transactions and on the black market.

If you find this hard to believe, please go check out season three of “The Wire”, where Bubbles has an ongoing ‘whitey sale’ of white T-shirts.
