VeraCruz Gallery, 2108 Vermont Ave NW (Above Duffy’s) has created “Sketch Lounge,” a monthly event to “unite and inspire the creative community.” Tonight, July 18, between 6 pm to 8 pm featured artists will be creating art on a small scale.

Tables will be set up for the featured artists. Once the piece is finished, the artist will price it between $5 and $30. If you like it, you pay the artist and you take it home, according to Justin Young.

Tonight’s featured artists are:

Lucy Papaya will be spinning funky vibes and there will be a cash bar (tacos to boot).

According to the gallery, “Sketch Lounge” is inspired by an event that Nate Lewis (founder of Somaphony) came across while visiting San Francisco’s 111 Minna Gallery. He believed that this event format could be brought to the East Coast and that this type of regular gathering of artists could be something valuable for the DC art community: “It provides a venue for their work to be seen, inspiration, sharing and networking to local artists and to those within the creative community in an informal atmosphere.”
