The rain is gone (for now) and DDoT was finally able to get started on the southbound bike lane on the west side of 15th Street NW. Yes, bikers will ride southbound on a one-way northbound street, between the curbed and parked cars—from Massachusetts Avenue to Florida Avenue NW.

This being DC, and that lane being wide enough to fit a car, how long do you think it’ll take for some wanting to drive their car southbound on 15th to figure out that this lane will work well for them?
I am worried about the whole thing. I want more bike lanes, but am uneasy about bikers riding against traffic between the curb and parked cars. One thing that concerns me is what might happen when people park their cars on the west side of 15th Street… while bikes are headed toward them. There will also be a northbound lane on the east side of 15th (between parked cars and traffic). Also, those three northbound lanes that DDoT plans to keep are going to be rather narrow, it seems.
such a blatant disregard for the safety of human beings….and for what?
Or use it as a parking spot.
Good idea – bad execution.
