Friday: “We Made It” Fundraiser for LGBTQ Youth

DC is a town always brimming with happy hours, concerts, dance parties and benefits, especially on weekends. Let’s make this one special and come together as a community on Friday night at 18th & U Duplex Diner to support The Trevor Project.

Your $10 donation at the door will go directly to the project and you will receive discounted rail drinks all night, courtesy of Duplex Diner. The evening is titled, “We Made It – A Fundraiser for LGBTQ Youth (The Trevor Project).”

Not familiar with The Trevor Project? The Trevor Project is a nonprofit endeavor established to promote acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth, and to aid in suicide prevention among that group.

It’s possible that you saw Ellen DeGeneres’s video message before you even heard about the “It Gets Better” project. DeGeneres’s video became viral following yet another tragic suicide of a teen who was a victim of cyber bullying. In addition to Ellen DeGeneres’s message, celebrities are speaking out to raise awareness of cyber bullying and bullying of gay teens.

In the new PSA spot, “It Gets Better,” celebrities encourage teens to reach out to The Trevor Project. Videos are being added to the “It Gets Better” project daily from people all across the country, whether they were bullied or not at one point in their lives. There are even former bullies apologizing, telling LGBTQ youth that It Gets Better.

Full details about Friday’s benefit at Duplex Diner are here.
