Time to Order the Thanksgiving Turkey

Folks. If you’re not thinking about Thanksgiving yet, I implore you to at least consider ordering your turkey this weekend from Truck Patch Farms at the 14th & U Farmers Market.

This week, Truck Patch Farms will be taking orders for their pastured, free range, broad breasted whites for delivery on at the market on Saturday, Nov. 20.

For regular shoppers at the market, you’ll know that flower vendor Elaine Faucher, retired last week (*sad face*). Robin Shuster (director of the market along with the one in Bloomingdale) tells me that they’ll be trying out a few new vendors in coming weeks, but this week’s guest flower grower is Leon of Plantmasters.

A bit on Leon from Robin:

Leon and his wife Carole have been growing flowers and plants on their two-acre flower meadow (and in the backyards of seven neighbors!) for 30 years. They also have a greenhouse to extend their growing season. Saturday they will have Mexican Sage, Butterfly weed, lots of dahlias, lots of zinnias, lilacs, ornamental pepper plants, Monkeyballs, limelight hydrangeas and many other flowers and bouquets.

How great does that sound? I’m a big fan of hydrangeas so I’ll be picking up some of those. Plus, I want to see a Monkeyball before decided to buy some.

Pumpkins for carving will also available tomorrow. Copper Pot seems to be concentrating all their efforts into putting fall into little pockets of pasta with selections such as confit duck ravioli, maple roasted pumpkin tortellini, braised rabbit ravioli, grass fed beef tortellini, coq au vin tortellini, red beet and goat cheese ravioli, sweet and regular potato gnocchi, cavatelli, and grilled pumpkin pappardelle.

The 14th & U Farmers Market will offer everything from varieties of squash to chestnuts… nine varieties of apples… fresh herbs… and leafy greens such as bok choy, Nappa cabbage and kale.!

    You won’t catch me eating that hippie-dippie-do free range stuff. I’m sticking with something nature had no part in growing!
