Yikes. The words “machine gun” and “shotgun” along with “ammunition” raise my eyebrows.

The MPD raided a residence in the 1800-block of Vermont Avenue NW last evening around 5:05 p.m. and arrested a 35-year-old man for possession of the following: AR-15 Machine Gun with 2 fully loaded “banana clips”; shotgun; stun gun; several rounds of miscellaneous ammunition; Marijuana, Cocaine, Oxycodone (also called Hillbilly Heroin) and Percocet; and an undisclosed amount of U.S. Currency.

The officers who made the bust were from Police Service Area (PSA) 305 and the Vice Unit. The 1800-block of Vermont is just south of U Street between 10th and 11 Streets NW.

The bust and arrest were part of MPD’s All Hands on Deck Phase VII program this weekend. The MPD news release on the bust is below the fold.

By any chance do you know if the resident at the 1500 block of Swann Street has an alarm system? Deadbolt? I recommend anyone with a ground/basement level unit or entrance get one installed. I had a security system installed at my Church st residence about 6 months ago. No break-ins (yet), but at least I have a piece of mind at night and when I’m not at home.

Police news release called it a machine gun, but it appears that semi-automatic rifle is correct. Still…

  3. DB says:

Also, there was an attempted burglary last night on the 1500 block of Swann Street where an intruder entered the home by breaking through the double glass patio door and made it through the whole house until the third floor where he encountered a resident. Apparently, everyone is OK, but would certainly like to hear more about if you know more details.

  4. Stating the Obvious says:

An AR-15 is NOT a machine gun. It’s a semi-automatic rifle and not any more or less dangerous than your daddy’s hunting rifle. So pretty much: Bad guy has rifle, shot gun, and stun gun and some drugs.

  5. Jeff says:

Holy Moly! Machine gun definitely gets your attention! Congrats to the MPD for this bust, def interested in hearing what the backstory is on all this…
