This month, gallery plan b’s windows and walls are full of their collection’s finest. The year-end group exhibition includes the work of 30+ local artists, including some new to the gallery. The collection consists of smaller, affordable pieces that really create a well-rounded show for the holiday season.
This show includes everything from hand made pottery, to jewelry, to prints and paintings. The gallery is at 1530 14th Street NW.
David Kalamar, gallery director, took a moment to discus the show with us and in particular the jewelry on display from Tina Bark Designs and KEEPTABZ. Tracy Blumenthal was the creator of the KEEPTABZ collection, who unfortunately passed away in 2011 of Lupus.
Kalamar says that the gallery will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the Cleveland Chapter of the Lupus Foundation, where Blumenthal was from. This amazingly charitable twist to the usual gallery showing is perfect for the holiday season and an amazing gesture from the gallery.
In addition to the jewelry collections, we think the showstopper is the work of local artist Paula Wachsstock. Her work is a captivating group of small monotypes that show the landmarks of Washington, DC,in full color. One in particular places a stark white Washington Monument over an orange Jefferson Monument.
The whiteness of the Washington caught my eye from feet away. Wachsstock definitely has an eye for color and uses it in both her printmaking and paintings in a very bright and fluid way. While we prefer her printmaking, we certainly look forward to seeing if the gallery brings her paints to its walls in 2013.
More on gallery plan b and the show can be found on the website. Please also stop in to the gallery for a very special book signing and reading from artist Kathy Beynette on Sunday December 16 at 2 pm. The show is up through December 23.
