4th-Quarter Borderstan Crime Stats

For Borderstan, fourth-quarter violent crime (October through December) is down 40% in 2008 while property crimes increased 24% in 2008 from 2007 in the same period. The big fourth-quarter increases are in thefts from autos and stolen autos. Overall, the fourth-quarter crime rate for Borderstan rose 13% in 2008 from the fourth quarter of 2007. However, the overall rate is still 15% below that of 2006.

What are Borderstan crimes? They are crimes that occurred within 1,000 feet (circular pattern) of 15th and Corcoran Streets NW (center of Borderstan)West Borderstan (west of 15th NW) is part of PSA 208 while East Borderstan (east of 15th NW) is part of PSA 307.

Borderstan Crime Highlights

Remember that all figures are for the fourth-quarter period only.

  • Total violent crime during the fourth-quarter in Borderstan decreased from 10 incidents in 2007 to 6 incidents in 2008; there were 9 violent crimes during the same period in 2006.
  • The number of robberies in Borderstan decreased from 9 in the fourth quarter 2007 to 6 in 2008; there were 7 robberies in the same peirod in 2006.
  • The were 4 gun crimes during the fourth quarter 2008 in Borderstan–0 gun crimes were reported in 2007 and 5 gun crimes occured in the fourth quarter of 2006.
  • The increase in fourth-quarter crime in Borderstan was in the overall property crime category, following a substanital drop in 2007. Property crimes rose 24% in 2008 to 63 incidents from 51 incidents during the same period in 2007. However, this is still below the 72 incidents in the fourth quarter of 2006; this means property crimes were still down 12% at the end of 2008 from 2006.
