Last night a neighborhood activist was robbed at gunpoint near the 1600-block of P Street NW.  The robbery occurred on the north side of Stead Park at approximately 8:05 p.m. in a poorly lit alley behind several apartment buildings. Two African American males, medium height, late teens or early twenties approached him and one displayed a small, revolver style handgun.  They took his wallet and coat, and fled on foot.  Police were on the scene within minutes, but were not able to apprehend either subject.
Our police lieutenant was informed of the robbery shortly after it occurred, and police are increasing visibility in the area.  The Lt. believes that the robbery may be tied to a series of similar robberies that occurred in late November and early December in the neighborhood.
Please be aware of your surroundings.  Travel on well lit streets at night and stay away from alleys and deserted streets if at all possible.  Look for distinguishing characteristics of assailants, including their shoes, any scars, height, weight and approximate age, and the direction in which they flee.  Contact police immediately and don’t take unnecessary risks.
And, as always, please keep an eye out and call 911 if you see any suspicious activity.  You don’t need to feel foolish for calling the police.  They are frequently on patrol in our neighborhood, and often have time to swing by and check out suspicious activities if they’re made aware of them.
