Suspect Charged in December Adams Morgan Murder

Police have charged a suspect with two D.C. murders, one of them the Dec. 10 killing of Derrell Goins (Dec. 11 posting here) in Adams Morgan. Details from the MPD  news release follow, with information on the Adams Morgan murder highlighted in red:

Suspect Charged in Two Separate MurdersThe Metropolitan Police Department has announced that a suspect has been charged with two separate murders: (1) the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Derrell Goins on December 20, 2008 and (2) the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Paul Dominique Jones on January 9, 2009. On January 29, 2009, 18-year-old Lafonte Lurie Carlton of Northwest Washington, DC, was charged with Murder Two While Armed pursuant a booking order in connection with the murder of Mr. Jones. Mr. Carlton was also charged with Murder II While Armed in connection with the death of Derrell Goins.

Shortly after 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, police were called to the 2200 block of Champlain Street, NW, to investigate the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located 21-year-old Derrell Goins, of the 600 block of Edgewood Street, NE, in the rear of that location suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Subsequently, he was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:56 pm.

At approximately 9:15 pm, on Friday, January 9, 2009, members of the department’s Third District and DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department responded to the rear of the 1300 block of Columbia Road, NW for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located 17-year-old Paul Jones, of the 600 block of Morton Street, NW, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body and head. He was subsequently pronounced dead on the scene by a representative of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office for the District of Columbia.
