President Obama: Only 26% of Us Stayed Home, Ate Pancakes with Our Dogs

Monday was a beautiful, bright snowday in Washington… the only real snowstorm we have had all winter. So, we were curious to find out here in Borderstan how many readers went to work–or not. I have lived in Washington for 16+ years and this tends to be a stay-at-home city even when snow merely threatens.
However, it appears that our new-from-Chicago-president may have had an effect on Washingtonians’ snowday habits when, earlier this winter, he voiced displeasure over his daughters’ school closure. I am a native Illinoisan who spent 10 years in Chicago… and life goes on there, even in the midst of storms that would close Washington for two to three days.
So, this morning, we asked readers at Borderstan.com, “Snowday! Did you go to work?” According to this extremely unreliable and unscientific opinion poll, only 26% said they stayed at home and had pancakes with the dog. President Obama will be encouraged to know that a whopping 60% went to work while a respectable 14% were busy working at home.
As of this evening, 35 Borderstan.com readers responded to “Snowday! Did you go to work?” The results:
- 60%: “Yes, I’m not a bum!” (21 votes)
- 26%: “No, I’m eating pancakes with the dog” (9 votes)
- 14%: “I work from home” (5 votes)
- 0%: “Not yet, going later” (0 votes)
President Obama, not all of us stayed home and ate pancakes with our dogs; only 26% of us, in fact. I will admit that I had pancakes with my partner and my dog–and then I went to work after the roads were cleared.
