PSA 208: YTD Crime Stats, January-March
Here are the year-to-date (January 1 through March 31) crime stats for Police Service Area (PSA) 208 for the last three years: 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Overall, total crime for the first three months of the year in PSA 208 increased for the second year in a row from 482 total crimes in 2007 to 523 total crimes in 2008 and 542 total crimes in 2009. This is a 12% increase in two years for the January-March period; a 4% increase from 2008 to 2009.
The most disturbing statistics for this three-month period are the increases in gun crimes and robberies. The number of gun crimes increased from 7 in 2008 to 14 in 2009 (details below). Robberies (with and without a gun) also increased noticeably from 35 to 45 for the January-March period.
Noticeable Trends in PSA 208, January-March
- Violent crime for the first three months of the year in PSA 208 rose by 13% from 52 incidents in 2008 to 59 in 2009; there were 45 violent crimesfor the same period of 2007. Since 2007, violent crime has risen 31% in PSA 208 for the January-March period.
- The number of assaults dropped from 17 in 2008 to 13 in 2009 for the January-March period; there were 12 assaults in for the period in 2007.
- The number of total property crimes in PSA 208 rose 3% for the January-Mach period–from 471 property crimes in the first three months of 2008 to 483 in the same period of 2009; there were 437 property crimes for the first three months of 2007. Overall, property crimesare up 11% in PSA 208 over the past two years.
- Burglaries jumped 45% from 29 such crimes in the January-March period of 2008 to 42 this year; this follows 38 burglaries in 2007.
- Thefts decreased for the period (252 down to 238).
- But, thefts from autos were up again by 10% over the same period in 2008. The number of thefts from autos for the first three months of the year: 148 in 2007, 163 in 2008 and 179 in 2009.
- There were 3 fewer stolen autos in PSA 208 for the first three months of the year in 2009 (24) compared to 2008 (27). This compares to 37 stolen autos for the January-March period of 2007, a 27% decrease in two years.
