As part of Cultural Tourism DC’s WalkingTown, DC, event, on Sunday, May 31, 2009, Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets will present a free walking tour of Dupont Circle, led by HDCMS Executive Director Paul Williams focusing on the past notorious scandals and bizarre historical personalities and events in and around our community!WalkingTown, DC Spring Edition is a weekend of free neighborhood walking tours encouraging residents and visitors alike to discover Washington–the cultural capital with vibrant street life and many little-known historic treasures.

Notorious Scandals of Dupont Circle
Sunday, May 31, 4 to 6 p.m.
Meet and end at 9 Dupont Circle (Community Resource Center)
This tour in and around Dupont Circle will stop at the sites of mayhem, murders, and society scandals that have taken place in this community over the past 125 years. Notorious stories include German spy and saboteur George Dash, a death by sling shot, Titanic survivor Helen Candee, jewel heists, a gruesome bombing during the red scare of 1919, and the story of DC’s own “Jack the Slasher.” Presented by Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets and led by Paul K. Williams, local historian and author of Dupont Circle (Arcadia, 2000).
