14th & Q: Drycleaner Closing; What Next? Vegan Diner? Dogs?

by Borderstan.com — June 11, 2009 at 6:17 pm 5 Comments

According to dcist, the drycleaner at the northeast corner of 14th and Q NW is finally closing. I remember hearing a couple of years ago that it was closing and would be replaced by a vegan/vegetarian diner combined with a pet grooming operation. (Come on people, you cannot make up this stuff; I am not that creative.) I have no idea what the current plans are for the building. Anyone know something?

GA Cleaners, also known as Georgia Avenue Cleaners and commonly referred to as Q Street Cleaners, located at the corner of 14th and Q Streets NW, will close for good this Saturday.

  1. Finally!

This cleaners was one of many owned by a Jewish family UNTIL the riots of ’68 when everything in/on/around 14th ST was burned to the ground. The family, good friends of mine, closed the doors and sold at rock bottom prices. They also owned the space on the corner of 17th & R (across from Dupont Italian Kitchen). Let’s hope the new owners of the space treat it with love and put something USEFUL there.

  3. Hoping for a combined Diner/Yoga Studio/Comedy Club so folks will stop bashing Room and Board for buying the building at 14th & T.

  4. Wait, is this YOUR business concept?? It sounds vaguely familiar…
