Thank you for posting and help keep an eye out we are blanketing the area for the next few days.

It’s one of my worst nightmares come true for the owners of Molly. She was apparently stolen last evening from in front of the Whole Foods on P Street NW. We Love DC has the story (forgive me for copying from them in an effort to get the word out):

Have You Seen Molly?

molly

This is Molly. She’s a 4 year old Vizla who was tied up outside the P Street Whole Foods last night around 6:00 PM for a few minutes. When her person came back out to pick her up, Molly was gone, apparently stolen by someone with NO CONSCIENCE AT ALL. Seriously, who steals a dog?

Molly is about 60 pounds, with reddish-brown fur, and is friendly and will respond to her name. If you have any info about her disappearance, please contact Tyler and Laurel at [email protected]. There’s a reward for her safe return.

  1. Thanks for spreading the word. I don’t know the dog or owners in question, but as someone with pets, the idea of someone walking off with someone else’s dog just outrages me.

  2. Can you give a description of her collar?

  3. So SO horrible! What a nightmare. I hope they get her back. 🙁 🙁 🙁

  4. Hey, Borderstan, the owners told me they’ve been getting harassing phone calls. Do you think you could remove the phone numbers and replace with their e-mail, [email protected]?

  5. Maybe she just got loose somehow? I really hope she gets home soon.

  6. The dcist article makes it pretty clear that she didn’t get herself loose. Poor beastie. I hope she and her people are reunited very soon.

This makes me sad and very angry. Please keep us posted.

  8. This is so upsetting. I do think this is a reminder that it is never safe to tie up your animal and leave it outside for any amount of time. It is to risky and it is terrible you cant trust your fellow neighbors but this is the world we live in. I do pray for Molly and that she is returned to her family. So sorry this happened to you.

  10. Hey Matt – Do you know if the owners contacted the various news media: Washington Post, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX and local animal rescue groups to get the word out? Getting her picture on screen and in the papers might help with her recovery – or pressure the dog-nappers to return Molly to her rightful owners.

  11. I think Jeremy’s comment should be heeded. I feel very strongly about this issue. I very much doubt this dog was stolen, I think it escaped. It’s wandering around and appears to be injured. PLEASE PLEASE do NOT tie your dog outside stores. So much can happen: The dog can escape, be taken, be attacked by other dogs, be teased by passersby, be fed unhealthy “treats” by others (chicken bones) — not to mention they’re scared. Ever see a dog outside a store? You can tell they’re frightened. Dogs are valued members of our families. Please keep them safe and treat them with respect. I hope Molly returns to you, and you keep her with you at all times.

  12. So awful…. I have never “met” Molly but I recognize her being walked around my neighborhood. I will spread the word….

  13. Has Molly been found? Saw a tall blonde man with glasses walking a dog that looks just like her with a cupcake collar…Is that one of Molly’s people?

  14. Why, why, why do people tie up their dogs? They’re not bikes on a rack, they are faithful companions. Guess with a 20009 zip code, the owners assumed things like this don’t happen in their neighborhood.

  15. and in the event this dog wasn’t stolen, but somehow broke loose, I still say shame on the owners.

  16. Per the Craigslist link, she has been sighted several times in the area with a crazy, unkempt lady at 15th and Q, as well as 16th Street southbound between Q and R. Petco in Cleveland Park has also made contact this evening saying the two have been in the store twice already.

  17. We now have serveillance photos of the woman seen with Molly at Cleveland park Petco. Eye witnesses as well as employees there confirm that Molly and the woman matches the descriptions that we have provided. Please email for pictures if you live in the Logan area, specifically Q and 15th/16th.
