Saturday Stuff: A Family Play Day… Free Dog Training Session
You may notice that by putting these two events in one posting that I am playing to a stereotype of Borderstan: a place where outsiders believe dogs are more important than kids. Well, tough. It’s been a long week and I don’t feel like doing two separate postings. So, here is an event for families with kids and an event for families with dogs.
From KaBOOM! – PLAY DAY! FOR FAMILIES. “We at KaBOOM! (the national non-profit that works with local communities to ensure that kids have a great place to play) invite you to an exciting, family friendly and FREE event we’re hosting on Saturday, September 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s the KaBOOM! Play Day in Walter Pierce Park on Adams Mill Road at Calvert Street NW). We’re inviting everyone we know over to play some of our favorite outdoor games. We’ll also have crafts, raffles, and park beautification projects for the whole family–it’s going to be great! KOOL-AID MAN will be stopping by to say hello and play some games with us too. We’ll have some food available for purchase on site, but lots of folks are bringing a picnic lunch. Hope to see you there! If you’d like to rsvp or learn more, go to our website (rsvps are not necessary, but helpful!).
Free Dog Training Class. Rachel Jones, owner of K-9 Divine, will be teaching a free dog training class at the Shaw Dog Park on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Rachel will discuss basic manners, such as how to prevent jumping. She will also give tips on how to recognize signs of distress or aggression in dogs to help owners can prevent conflicts at the park. The park is on 11th Street NW between Q & R Streets. (We know Rachel and think she’s great. Lupe had her first training class with her.) Also, Shaw Dogs has a group on Yahoo! It is called Dog Owners of Greater Shaw.
