Cork Market, 1805 14th St NW, opened today to a clientele that has been waiting for this new gourmet market. We spoke to one of the owners, Diane Gross, who with Khalid Pitts also owns Cork Wine Bar.  She said they have had a very good opening day. The store carries wines, cheeses and charcuterie. You will also find bread in loafs, baguettes and all kinds of delicious treats.

For this weekend they have planned wine tastings, Saturday from 3 to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.

  • Looks gorgeous.

bought a couple of things last night…not super impressed for the price yet, but very excited that it’s in the neighborhood. The pesto was not very flavorful and the bread was hard (which I knew when I bought it, but still)

I’m excited for more prepared food – not excited for the prices. Great addition to the area.

Went this morning, and was underwhelmed. To succeed, it has to be far more than a wine store with a solid selection, but that is all it appears to be right now. Very little in the way of prepared foods, which is what the area really needs. Hope it improves, because it fills a real need in the area.

Has anyone heard if they’ll have expanded prepared food? I get selling things from their menu that are popular, but wouldn’t it be great if they had a few (veggie friendly) rotating dinner options? Cheese and wine are great, but not something you find a need for all the time. Given how busy Whole Foods crappy prepared food section is, if Cork had good stuff, they’d do great.

The store is beautiful, I am sure it will be better stocked as they get the kitchen fully up and running, some things are expensive, but there are plenty of reasonably priced wines. The sandwiches are around $7+. Which is about the same as Dupont Market. I look forward to trying one and not having to drive over to Dupont Market to get a decent sandwich here! (though I will still make the trip for DM’s chicken salad) A very welcome addition to our neighborhood.
