Luis Gomez Photos snowpocalypse Logan Circle Borderstan

Around 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning on the 1400 block of P Street NW: Stoney’s and Halo were open and a few people were out in the snow. The reflection off the snow made it almost seem like daytime. (Luis Gomez Photos)

Good morning, Borderstan. Anyone been out to the commercial strips yet? What’s open… particularly on P, U Connecticut, 14th and 17th Streets NW?

There is a snowball “fight” scheduled for 2 p.m. at Dupont Circle and I have heard there is one at Meridian Hill Park at the same time.

What else is going on?

  • A friend just confirmed that MidCity Cafe on 14th (between Corcoran and R) IS OPEN.

  • Carlos

Just called the 17th Street Safeway. A nice woman said they are open as long as they can be open, not set closing time.

  • Taboo

I am getting a little crazy from being inside. Hoping some of the local coffee houses open. I called Steam Cafe and Java House, but no one answered. This was about 9:30 this morning.

  • I heard on the tee-vee that the Starbucks on the north side of Dupont Circle opened around 10 to a huge crowd.

  • DC Deac

Just got an email that Cork Market is open and doing sparkling wine tastings.

  • Heard from a friend that DC liquor stores are closing at 5 p.m. Supposedly she heard this on NPR. Also, HomeMade Pizza at 14th and Church is open.

  • Jessica

    Dupont Market is open

  • Snowed in

Anyone know of a good place to go sledding around here?

  • davidt

At noon Java House told me they were open and will be open for another hour. Going down to get some coffee…

  • JPB

Just called the P Street CVS and they said they were open with no plans of closing. Quote: “We’re 24 hours.”

  • Jessica

Any word on the starbucks at 16th and U?
Lauriol also seems to be open ALL the time. I’d go there tonight to get out if they were open.

  • gallery plan b on 14th Street (just north of Church) says they WILL be open this evening for their artist reception, 6 to 9 p.m. http://www.galleryplanb.com/exhibits.html#tv

  • Kramerbooks is open as usual, and ready for anything! Special drink: The Snowpocalypse: Bailey’s Irish Cream, Godiva Chocolate liqueur & Peppermint Schnapps in hot chocolate.

  • Steam Café on 17th open. They’ve made some nice improvements since I was last in there, it’s looking nice, they’re always wonderful folks, great crepes, panini sandwiches, and more, free WiFi.

Safeway on 17th impressed me today: fully stocked for milk and bread, and well stocked for most other items, except eggs (none). NO lines. Whole Foods was closed. Noted: People don’t cook. Prepackaged foods running a tad low, while items for making your own meal were in greater abundance.

Trio on 17th open, and a waitress with a fun attitude.

Annie’s on 17th open; the gas lamps look particularly good against the snow. They make good cosmos.

  • @Joel: THANKS. You the man on the scene.

  • Just saw on Twitter that all Logan Hardware stores are closed today.

  • Emily

Veranda on P and 11th is open – cheery crowd at the bar.

  • Bob in DC

Bar Pilar and Cafe Saint-Ex are open and plan to be open until 3 a.m.

  • Lindsay

Churchkey’s open! But packed and realllllllllly slow.
