Street Sweeping Resumes March 22: Yes, it seems like a small thing. But the streets–the curbs and gutters, specifically–get pretty pretty nasty after three to four months with no sweeping. DDoT resumes daytime residential street sweeping on Monday, March 22. However, tickets will not be issued if you don’t move your car until the following Monday the 29th.
Logan Hardware Profile: Gina Schaefer–co-owner of Logan Hardware with her husband, Marc–is profiled in an online story. The Schaefers are getting ready to open their seventh DC-area ACE Hardware store. The Logan Hardware store on the 1400 block of P Street is a mainstay of area businesses–I would even call it an anchor store on the block.
Church Fighting Same-Sex Marriages Holding Services at E Street Cinema: The DC Agenda reports that “A Maryland-based church whose pastor is leading efforts to overturn D.C.’s same-sex marriage law is holding Sunday morning services at the E Street Cinema in downtown Washington, prompting some activists to call for a boycott of the theater.” However, other activists say a boycott would be illegal–and wrong. Texting and Driving: City Paper Loose Lips: “Another Metro driver is fired for texting while driving. WTTG-TV: ‘The photos first appeared on the website unsuckdcmetro.blogspot.com. The passenger writes on the blog that the bus was so crowded he was forced to stand up front near the driver. The operator was driving down 14th Street when the pictures were taken according to the photographer. You can see the phone partially hidden under the driver’s leg.’ “
