TUESDAY Update: Tonight’s scheduled movie will be shown next Tuesday, July 20, due to the rain and wet ground at Harrison Field.

The U Street Movie Series is back on Tuesday night, July 13, with Buena Vista Social Club. The films are shown at the field at Harrison Recreation Center on V Street between 13th and 14th Streets NW. Gates open at 7 pm and showtime is at sundown, around 8:30 pm.

The first 100 attendees get free popcorn at 8 pm. Rain date is July 20. There is even valet bicycle service if you ride your bike to Tuesday night’s movie. It’s being provided by the Washington Area Bicycle Association (WABA). More info is also available on the U Street Movies Facebook Page.

The theme of this year’s movie series pays homage to the musical and culturally diverse roots of the U Street Neighborhood, with a series of documentaries and films telling moving stories of accomplished musicians. The last film, Michael Jackson’s This Is It, was seen by a crowd of over 450 in June.

The movie series is sponsored by the U Street Neighborhood Association, Meridian Hill Neighborhood Association, ANC 1B and MidCity Business Association.

The schedule for the rest of the summer includes The Soloist on August 10 (rain date August 17), and Duke Ellington’s Washington and Soul Power on September 14 (rain date September 21).

Donations and sponsorships towards the event benefit Friends of Harrison Recreation Center, a nonprofit formed in 2009 that works directly with DC Department of Parks and Recreation.
