Borderstan Dupont Logan U Street

News from Dupont-Logan-U Street NW, and perhaps a bit beyond. (Borderstan)

Welcome to a roundup of news you might have missed from the Dupont-Logan-U Street area–and sometimes slightly beyond. We used to call this “Stuff You Might Have Missed (But Shouldn’t Have).

Justice Sotomayor at Annie’s

A friend of Borderstan says he ate dinner at a table next to U.S. Supreme Court Jusitce Sonia Sotomayor last Sunday night at Annie’s Steakhouse on 17th Street NW. Anyone else see her?

Eva Longoria at Hank’s

Finally, some news about Hank’s Oyster Bar that doesn’t have to do with their efforts to expand. The Washington Post’s Reliable Source column reported that Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, and her husband Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs, had dinner at the popular Q street NW restaurant last Wednesday night.

ChiDogO at 14th & U: What About Utopia Project?

According to U Street Girl, the fast food chain ChiDogO (ChiCaGo… ChiDogO… get it?) plans to have their 1934 14th Street NW store open by mid-October. The banner for the store says they serve “loaded Chicago style hotdogs.” Interesting, this store is part of the block slated for demotion for the new Utopia project on the northwest corner of 14th and U Streets NW. Perhaps the term of the lease would tell us something about the project and when it will start? See June 30 post, DC Metrocentric: “Utopia is Happening” at 14th & U.

CB2 Coming… to Georgetown

The word is out that CB2, the offshoot of home furnishings retailer Crate & Barrel, has signed a deal to take 13,000 square feet at 3307 M Street NW in Georgetown. The Washington Post story has more details on the deal. For some time there was hope and speculation that CB2 would take space along the 14th Street corridor; a likely space was the Central Union Mission at 14th and R.

Adams Morgan Festival Dog Shooting

The gay cop who shot an aggressive dog at the annual Adams Morgan Day festival says the shooting was necessary. The gay caretaker of the Sharpei-Pit Bull mix had previously told the Washington Post that the dog was subdued and the shooting was not justified. According to the Washington Blade story, both sides have witnesses to support their claims. Read the story to learn more about the officer involved–he’s a dog lover.

Turning Metro Stop Names into Sentences

Southeast DC blogger JDLand reported on the efforts by the Capitol Riverfront Business Improvement District to add “Capitol Riverfront / Ballpark” to the Navy Yard Metrorail station name. ANC 6D supported the proposal, and then voted to support adding “Arena Stage” to the Waterfront/SEU station name. DCist has a short overview of the history behind station names and mentions our own U Street / Cardozo / African- American Civil War Memorial Green line station.
