Here’s the holiday schedule in DC for Christmas and New Year’s for both trash/recycling collection and for parking enforcement:
- The Department of Public Works (DPW) will pick up trash and recyclables on both Fridays — December 24 and December 31.
- Regular parking enforcement will be suspended on December 24, 25, 31 and January 1. You won’t have to feed the meters or move your car from rush-hour lanes.
Trash and Recycling Collections
DPW crews will follow the normal collections schedule and pick up trash and recycling Friday, December 24 and Friday, December 31. This applies to both once-a-week and twice-a-week collection neighborhoods.
Trash and recycling containers should be put out for collection no earlier than 6:30 pm the night before collection and removed from public space by 8 pm on the collection day.
DPW will suspend enforcement of parking meters, residential parking and rush hour lane restrictions Friday and Saturday, December 24 and 25, and Friday and Saturday, December 31 and January 1. Also, DPW will not tow abandoned vehicles.
Leaf collections will be made from most “Area B” neighborhoods (no, it’s not the same as Area 51), except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Area B residents — that’s the Borderstan area — should rake their leaves into their treebox spaces by the Sunday before their collection weeks.
