As we approach the New Year, let’s take a look back at 2010 through the photography of Luis Gomez. We all have Luis to thank for bringing our stories to life through his images.

February: Back to back snowstorms closed the government, shut down several Metro lines and created a ‘flurry’ of portmanteaus including snowpocalypse, snowmageddon and snowzilla. Borderstan readers contributed hundreds of photos to the Flickr pool, documenting the snowstorm in the neighborhood.
May: The Rolling Thunder parade takes place each year in DC on the Sunday before Memorial Day to honor prisoners of war and soldiers missing in action. While it doesn’t happen in Borderstan, it’s a great event (with great photos).
June: On the afternoon of June 5, thousands of futbol fans, including U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team defender Eddie Pope, gathered to watch three FIFA World Cup Matches on two large screens in Dupont Circle at Soccer in the Circle. Later in the day it was the annual Capital Pride Parade.
July: A month later, Spanish fans celebrated Spain’s first FIFA World Cup victory in Dupont Circle — literally in Dupont Circle!
August: Sponsored by the MidCity Business Association, the annual Dog Days of Summer Sidewalk Sale had more than 100 businesses and organizations from the MidCity Business Association on the 14th and U Street corridors during the first weekend of August.
September: The first annual 17th Street Festival featured more than 60 artists, businesses and musicians, as well as a pet zone and beer garden. Café Saint-Ex threw a block party of its own in September; the Labor Day pig roast/BBQ sauce cook off raised funds to benefit the Fillmore Art Center and Ross Elementary.
October: The 25h running of the 17th Street High Heel Race, sponsored by the Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets and JR’s Bar and Grill, attracted nearly 60,000 people to the neighborhood.
December: Local businesses decorated their store fronts for the holiday season.
