You Better Watch Out, You Better Not Cry

I’ll tell you why: Walmart is coming to town. Washington City Paper reports that the department store giant received the highest endorsement when Michelle Obama gave her stamp of approval. Apparently the White House and its advisors think that Walmart will “step…up as leaders to take this country to a healthier place.” Do you agree? Think it’s a good move for the District?

March for Life

The March for Life rally is coming back to D.C. The takeover is later today on the National Mall, so if you’re considering waving your pro-choice flag, you might want to consider an alternate path. As TBD so eloquently puts it, expect to see dead-fetus sandwich boards and blood-spattered baby coffins from a trip down rally lane. Oh, yeah, and expect road closures around there, too.

Half-Price at Grillfish Tonight!

The restaurant Grillfish at 1200 New Hampshire Avenue NW will be down for the count for the next month. They’ll be doing some renovations, which include reconfiguring their space and redoing some of their dining area. Washington Business Journal has the full scoop, revealing that their last night before closing will be tonight, where they are celebrating by making all food and drink half off!

It All Started with a Donut…

Endless Simmer, a popular food blog, showed some love for Borderstan dining and named a sandwich at ChurchKey at 1337 14th Street NW the best in America. The New Luther, named for its alleged creator, Luther Vandross, takes a house-made brioche donut glazed in savory maple-chicken jus, stuffs it with buttermilk fried chicken and applewood smoked bacon and tops it with warm pieces of oven-baked pecans. If you want to try one, you’ll have to request it directly and only on a Sunday — apparently they’re quite secretive about their Luthers. Think you’ll be getting one of these, or does it make your cholesterol rise just thinking about?

Meet Your New Neighbor

Just wait Borderstani, you may soon be living next to the newest Supreme Court Justice. A report from 14th & You tells us that Justice Elena Kagan was recently checking out houses in the Logan Circle area — and assures the Justice that there are plenty of worthwhile restaurants in our humble neighborhood.
