Today’s photo was taken by Lightboxdc: “I believe this door sign has already disappeared since this photo was taken. The sign hints at the history of 14th Street, which was once home to car dealers, auto parts vendors and other related businesses. Here’s a superb article on that history, by Paul Williams.” Photo shot July 27, 2008.

You can submit up to five photos per day in the Borderstan reader pool. We are looking for photos from DC’s Dupont, Logan and U Street neighborhoods.

  1. We LOVE that door! There used to be a matching one on the left side of the 1333 14th Street building (now home to Fathom Creative) but it was broken decades ago, possibly during the riots. The remaining door (pictured above) is now a fully-functional interior door showcased within Fathom’s space along with various old signs, helping retain the character and history of the building.
