Today’s photo was taken by Paul Frederiksen: “The Toutorsky Mansion is on the corner of my block. I usually just refer to it as the haunted house.” Photo shot April 23, 2010.

The 12,000-square foot Toutorsky Mansion, completed in 1894, was recently the subject of some controversy. The government of the Republic of Congo recently received permission from the DC Board of Zoning Adjustment to turn the property into a chancery. After complaints regarding some of their plans — and the fact that their current property is not in the best of shape — Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 2B voted 8 to 0 to recommend that the Congo not be allowed to proceed.
