Dog Park Meeting

The Shaw Dog Park’s monthly meeting ,of the dog park committee is this Wednesday, April 20, 7 pm, at the Hotel Helix. All are welcome to attend. Shaw Dog Park located at 11th Street and Rhode Island Avenue NW (just south of R Street) and operated by Shaw Dogs, a volunteer group. Our newest contributor, Tori Tyree, has some tips for the dog park.

Dupont Group Fundraising on eBay

Interested in bargains and want to help a local organization? Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets is holding an eBay fundraising auction. HDCMS’s mission “is to make Dupont Circle’s commercial corridors economically healthy, improve our quality of life, and reflect our community’s pride and history.” As of this writing they still have lots of cool vintage cufflinks, collectibles and artwork available to the highest bidder.

Klein Joins Mayor-to-Be Emanuel in Chicago

Transportation Nation is reporting that former District Department of Transportation chief Gabe Klein has been tapped by Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel to head up Chicago’s transportation office. While leading the DDOT under Adrian Fenty, Klein oversaw the implementation of a bikeshare program and the addition of miles of dedicated bike lanes. Bike lanes, along with dog parks, often fuels racially-charged rhetoric between longtime residents and newcomers to D.C.’s increasingly popular downtown neighborhoods. Emanuel has stated he hopes to build 100 miles of bike lanes in Chicago.

Georgetown is Still Soggy

If the warmer weather is having you dream about happy hour at the Georgetown waterfront, think again. According to TBD and ABC7 during this weekend’s storms somebody did not put up the flood gates all the way at the Washington Harbour complex. The gates protect the popular drinking and dining spot from the Potomac’s rising water level. As of Tuesday, efforts to pump out the water was moving along, but the entire cleanup may take several days.
