F.I.S.T. is over, yes — but that does not mean that the competitive spirit has waned on U Street. Mark your calendars, Borderstanis. Next Thursday and Friday, April 28 and 29, 53 semifinalists from across the country descend upon the Lincoln Theater to compete in the National Finals of Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest, the nation’s largest youth poetry recitation competition.

Guest judges for the final competition — to take place on Friday night the 29th at 7 pm — include poets Valerie Martinez, Thomas Sayers Ellis, and Brian Turner, actress and author Amber Tamblyn, playwright/actress/director Aditi Brennan Kapil, and Artistic Director of the Shakespeare Theatre Company, Michael Kahn.

Admission to “Poetry Out Loud” is free and open to the public.

This Friday and Saturday at the Source. This Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23, at 8 pm, The Source, in conjunction with the Alliance Francaise de Washington and Trap Door Theater, will be putting on Me Too, I am Catherine Deneuve. Be you French or lover of French things and/or drama, Me Too, I am Catherine Deneuve is a “witty,  imaginative and grotesque family drama that reveals the liberating and destructive elements that occur as each member suffers the varying effects of an identity crisis.”
