In what was a wildly successful evening, Ross Elementary School raised $40,000 in its third annual auction last Saturday, almost doubling the amount it raised last year. This year’s event was held at the German Marshall Fund at R Street and New Hampshire Avenue NW and was coordinated by the Ross School PTA.

The funds raised will be directed to modernize its current building, create enrichment programs for its students, and assist in the professional development opportunities for its teachers; in fact, $3,000 was raised at the time of the auction, in live auction paddle boating, for teacher professional development programs. Ross School serves students from pre-K through Grade 5 and is located at 1730 R Street NW.

Wondering how to score a lunch with Rhee or Chuck Todd? See how much the hottest prizes went for below, and start budgeting accordingly now for the 2012 auction! (If you, like me, need this much advanced planning.)

  • Napa Valley Experience – $2,800
  • Gourmet Dinner in your home for 10 to 12 – $1,000
  • Lunch with Michelle Rhee – $750
  • Lunch with Chuck Todd – $500
  • 2 Tickets to Taylor Swift in CBS Studio Suite – $500
  • Front Row Caps Tickets – $500

Susan and Bob Meehan were recognized for their longtime support of Ross Elementary School. The Meehans have lived on the 1700 block of Corcoran since the 1970s and have taken an active interest in the school for decades. The Meehans played a role in helping reopen Ross for the neighborhood after it had been closed.

Bob Meehan currently serves as an advisory neighborhood commissioner on ANC 2B, representing district 03. Susan Meehan also served on ANC 2B at one point.

If this year is any indication,  you can’t help but wonder what the years ahead will look like – in both prizes and the future of Ross Elementary. More information: Saturday: Ross School Auction (Lunch with Chuck Todd, Michelle Rhee?)
