Weekend Farmers’ Markets: Rainy Edition
From Alejandra Owens of One Bite At A Time where she writes about food, cooking and even offers up some great recipes. You can also find her on Twitter at @frijolita.
In trying to find a silver lining to this rainy weekend we’re about to enter, I thought to myself, well, maybe it’ll bring us some of our favorite summer crops a little faster? A girl can dream.
In the meantime, grab your umbrella and get out to Borderstan’s two farmers markets: 14th and U and Dupont Circle. The 14th & U Farmers’ Market is Saturdays only from 9 am to 1 pm, and Dupont Circle is Sundays only from 8:30 am to 1 pm.
Robin of the 14th and U Farmers’ Market says sugar snap peas, strawberries and asparagus are the standouts for this week. I don’t doubt her. Last week was the first market of the season and I don’t think I’ve been that excited about produce in a long while. Not only has she got an amazing range of vendors but each one is bringing their A-Game to the market. Load up on these season faves while they last — let me know if you need recipe ideas in the comments or hit me up on Twitter: @frijolita.
Whisked!, a new vendor at the 14th & U, tells us they sold out of several items within the first hour last week! So if you want granola bars and the like, be sure to order online for pick-up at the market or get to their tent early! Market opens at 9am sharp.
Dupont Circle market will feature more of the great stuff they’ve been showcasing for a couple weeks now. What I’m really loving is the array of fresh arugula, spinach and lettuces you can buy by the bag. In my opinion it’s never too early to dive right in to summer salads and the like.
Also a highlight this week will be the Chef at Market demonstration. This week it’s Kevin Villalovos of Cure Bar + Bistro and you can catch him at 11 a.m.
Are you guys gonna get out for the markets this weekend? Anything in particular you’re looking forward to trying?
