From the DC Department of Public Works… residential trash and recycling collections to begin at 6 am Tuesday and Wednesday due to heat and poor air quality.
- The DC Department of Public Works’ trash and recycling crews will begin their collections one hour earlier, at 6 am, Tuesday, May 31, and Wednesday, June 1, due to a forecast of 90 degrees and above temperatures and unhealthy air quality.
- Residents may put their trash and recyclables out for collection starting at 6 pm the night before collections so they do not have to change their morning schedules to make sure these materials are collected.
- Throughout the season, when the temperature is predicted to be 90 degrees or higher or the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments announces unhealthy air quality (Code Orange or Code Red days), DPW collection crews will begin their work at 6 am to avoid environmental issues and to protect the quality of their health.
- DPW will continue to monitor the weather throughout the week and make adjustments to the collection schedule as the weather dictates.
