After Memorial Day and a short work week, it feels like the weekend really crept up on us. But that’s MORE than okay, because there’s a TON going on this weekend. Here are your best bets for weekend fun and beating the heat.

Music Festivals, Beer Week, Seersucker Bike Ride

Six U Street corridor spots (several on 9th Street NW) are hosting the Sweet Tea Pumpkin Pie Festival this weekend, a two-day affair featuring live performances and music from more than 125 bands, including Echo Wall, Noble Air, We Were Pirates, and MORE. The festival is FREE, so get all your details here and go check it out.

The non-stop party over at BYT’s Vitaminwater Uncapped Live CONTINUES. There’s great music, art, and fun happening every night so check out the full schedule and plan your visit. There’s also free Vitaminwater…

Put on your finest bowties or pearls and hop on your bike for the annual Seersucker Social this Saturday, June 4. Get your $10 ticket here to participate in the bike ride (the starting point will be announced in advance of the ride) and lawn party at the Hillwood Estate from 2 to 7 pm. Guaranteed to have SUPERB clothing and people-watching. The Seersucker Social After-Party will continue at the Lamont Bishop Gallery (1314 9th Street NW) from 8 pm ’till midnight. Admission is FREE.

Food Truckeroo and Beer Week

Truckeroo is the place to be on Friday, June 3.  Head down to Das Bullpen near Nat’s Stadium for the first MONTHLY gathering of your favorite DC food trucks. Everyone and their mom (food truck-wise) will be there all day from 11 am to 9 pm at the corner of Half Street and M Street SE.

Savor Beer Week is also in full swing. If you don’t have tickets for the culminating event this weekend at the National Building Museum, don’t think you have to go thirsty. A host of local restaurants and bars are hosting special beer week events. Consult Young & Hungry’s great Beer Week calendar and go enjoy!

Want to stick in Borderstan and eat bivalves? Then head to ChurchKey (with your ticket purchased and printed!) on Sunday for Rogue Ales Kegfest and Oyster Bash!

Also… Zabb, a modern pan-Asian restaurant and bar, is now soft-open in the old Straights of Malaya space on 18th Street. Their tree-covered roofdeck looks like the perfect place to spend an outdoor weekend evening. Plus, they’re offering ten percent off of your check during the soft-opening. They expect to open officially within the next two weeks, so stop by this weekend before it blows up. Check out our FIRST LOOK at the space.

For more outdoor eating and drinking ideas, check out our Borderstan guides to local rooftop and patio hotspots.

Museum Walk Weekend, Jazz, Fur

Jazz in the Garden is back for the summer. Friday nights in the Sculpture Garden. Picnic blanket and snacks recommended.

Stop by Free Summer Saturdays at the Corcoran (500 17th Street NW). Then keep the museum momentum going at the 28th Annual Museum Walk Weekend this Saturday and Sunday, when 10 local museums will be open for FREE. Yes, they’re all within walking distance of each other.

“Venus in Fur” is now playing at The Studio Theater (1501 14th Street NW) and let’s be honest, could there be a better way to spend some time in an air conditioned setting? Showtimes this weekend: Friday 8 pm; Saturday 2 pm and 8 pm; and Sunday at 2 pm and 7 pm. Tickets and more information available here.

LBGT Pride Events in the Neighborhood

There are  a million things going on for Capital Pride this weekend, leading up to the parade (Borderstan.com will be in the parade–look for us!) next weekend. Consult our daily local pride guide for more info.

ALSO! Save the date for BYGays/Capital Pride’s “SOMEWHERE…” bonanza at the Newseum next Friday night, June 10. Snag presale tix here.

Update Your Wardrobe

Finally, on Sayurday, June 4, swing by Current Boutique (1809 14th Street NW), a new designer clothing, shoes, and accessories consignment shop in Logan Circle, for their Grand Opening from 11 am to 8 pm — complete with cupcakes and champagne.

What are YOU doing this weekend, Borderstan? Anything we missed? Enjoy it out there, and see you next week!
