VIDA Fitness U Street Opening June 30

VIDA Fitness says it will open its new U Street facility on June 30. A Facebook posting and email to members says the entire gym will be up and running at the end of the month (June 14 was the original opening date). The location on the 1600 block of U Street is where RESULTS Gym formerly had its flagship location. As for the rooftop pool, the VIDA message says, “The Penthouse Pool Club is still scheduled for August 9th opening. We can’t wait to share this amazing facility with you!”

Weekend Metro Hours Preserved

DCist has important news for all you bridge and tunnel people, as well as the millions of other D.C. residents that rely on Metro to get from place to place on the weekend. WMATA has decided NOT to extend the time between trains on Saturdays and Sundays. It would have saved money, but cost you up to 25 minutes. On to the next big idea!

Mayor Gray Hits Up Shake Shack

Since I’m currently in New York, I can tell you everyone is obsessed with those calorie cards on all food options. Apparently, we also care in D.C. — Washington City Paper documents the Mayor’s trip to Shake Shack and one reader’s apparent horror at an 800+ calorie burger. After what he’s been dealing with, I do not fault the man some comfort food.

DC2NY Bus Owners Spill All

The heat may have inspired you to try to get to the beach sometime soon. If you are careless but still love Rehoboth (or Dewey), you didn’t have many options until DC2NY started running buses out there. MetroWeekly has a nice article on the couple that runs the service (thanks Match.com for bring these two men together, so I can get to the beach this weekend).

Shi-Queeta Lee Updates

Remember our profile of Shi-Queeta Lee? Check out the Washington Blade’s longer feature piece on the transformation of Jerry Van Hook to Shi-Queeta Lee. If you haven’t made it to Nellie’s to see the drag queen brunch yet, then go to the Pride Parade this weekend and see Borderstan AND Ms. Lee all at once. I hear there may be some beads in it for you…
