Hi there, Borderstanis. Hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend.

Last week, I began the first in a series of essentials for autumn, otherwise known as the best season ever. Now that we have the perfect shoes, let’s work our way up to the next articles of clothing for the ideal fall wardrobe, shall we?

By now, I’m sure you have all the denim you think you need. Well, I thought so too… ’til I tried on these chic and comfortable wonders from Naked & Famous. They fit like slim-cut jeans, but feel like a comfortable pair of pajama bottoms. And with the herringbone finish, they’re perfect for the season.

You can pick up a pair of them at Rue 14, my favorite store in Borderstan. Speaking of which, Rue 14 is participating in Fashion’s Night Out by throwing a party this Thursday, September 8 from 6 to 10 pm.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. It wouldn’t be autumn without a pair of smart cords or three, would it. Personally, I like to buy a couple of pairs each season: one in a subdued, subtle color, like a traditional charcoal or brown; and one in a more… whimsical shade. I highly recommend the 484 vintage slim cords from J.Crew and the 511’s by Levi’s. Both cuts are similar to my favorite jeans.

If you’ve lived in the District for a while like I have, then you know that the seasons can be a bit tricky. While fall doesn’t officially begin for a few more weeks, the weather can remain summer-esque for a while. For warmer days, I recommend the Stanton pants from J.Crew, in the 484 slim fit (I’m sure you’re sensing a theme here).

I’ve been rambling on for a while about casual pants, but what about a dressier pair for the office or an evening at a fine restaurant or the theatre? I’d check out the dark charcoal chinos from Rag & Bone. Yeah yeah, they’re a bit pricey (a little under $300) but I’ve owned a handful of items from this relatively new designer, and they’ve lasted for years. However, if you’re looking for a more affordable pair of slacks, you can’t go wrong with J.Crew’s urban slim fit Bowery pants in either herringbone or gray wool.

As always, it’s been a blast, Borderstanis, but that’s it for me this week. Let’s chat next time as we continue to work up to the ideal fall wardrobe. Ciao.
