The Logan Circle location of Artfully Chocolate (ACKC) will be closing its doors on December 31 at 1529 14th Street NW. The news came in a Wednesday-evening email from owner Eric Nelson, which is also posted on the company’s Facebook page. He emphasized that the two Alexandria locations are not affected. The Logan Circle store opened in 2008.

The email from Nelson added that while ACKC’s last day is Saturday, there will be a special post-closing sale on Thursday, January 12.

Closings and Movings on 14th Street Corridor

It has been a year of change for the 14th Street corridor beyond the new residential development and store openings. A number of long-time businesses either closed, moved or were considering it.

This sucks. Why is it closing? Everything on 14th St. is shutting down. I don’t get it.

  • Rough economy for specialty shops, I guess. Sad to see them go.

I got the sense that the place was trying to be too many things at once and not particularly outstanding in any. What started out as a specialty chocolate shop morphed into a coffee shop then into an ice cream shop then into a wine bar then into a bistro…what are you ACKC? when you lose sight of core strengths, it’s hard to be successful at any. I think part of what we’re seeing along 14th isn’t just the economy but the natural attrition of failed business ventures after a boom of new openings. Still sad to see any of them go but no one said it was easy, bad economy or not.

I knew Eric back when he was a trade expert. As good as he was at that, he seemed to really love his shops. So sorry to see them go!

Anyone know what will be going into that space?

  • Rich

Ridiculously overpriced chocolate that no one seemed to buy, but the coffee shop aspect seemed to have a following.

And don’t forget MidCity Café over Miss Pixie’s. Gone.
