As of January 1, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) introduced new District and Police Service Area (PSA) boundaries (see New Police Service Areas Take Effect January 1). Over the next few weeks, we’ll be doing brief overviews of the boundaries of the new PSAs and how to contact the police personnel in charge of each area. Last week we covered PSA 305 (see Closer Look at PSA 305′s New Boundaries, Personnel). This week, we take a look at PSA 301 (see Google map).
After realignment, PSA 301 is now part of Borderstan. Previously, PSA 301 was in the northwestern part of the Third District, in an area that shifted to the Fourth District as part of the boundary changes.
The new PSA 301 has a southern boundary of Q Street NW and a northern boundary of Florida Avenue NW. East to west, PSA 301 goes from 14th Street NW to 18th Street NW (view Google map or map at DC Citizen Atlas). The Third District Station at 1620 V Street NW is now within PSA 301.
With these new boundaries, all of PSA 301 falls within Borderstan’s coverage areas. Look for the inclusion of PSA 301 data in our stories about crime in Borderstan in 2012.
Much of the new PSA 301 was previously part of PSA 208 (and before September 2007 this area was PSA 306–so yes, in the past five years, much of this area has gone from the Third District to the Second District and now back to the Third District again).
