If the 60 degree weather makes you a bit nostalgic for winter and fireplaces, you can see why Engert was nominated for that James Beard award. He’s showcasing smoked beers, which are exactly as they sound.
These beers, explains the The Washington Post, get their smoky taste from roasting barley over a fire. There are several options available at Birch & Barley, and the Post article has some pretty tasty recipes if you’d prefer to leave the smoke out of your glass and on your ‘cue.
