There was a fire tonight around 8:30 pm at the southwest corner of 14th & P Streets NW. The third floor of the building that houses Mid City Deli and Carry Out Deli caught on fire. What seemed like a quiet nice evening on the bustling 14th Street corridor turned into waves of flames coming out of the third floor of the corner building.
The business is often referred to by locals as “the fish market at 14th and P.” For the past week or so, the first-floor deli and carryout appeared to have been closed. In an area of rapid change and turnover among longtime businesses, the establishment managed to keep going. The upstairs floors of the building are thought to have been apartments.
According to the latest information from the DC Police, no one was hurt. There were 10 fire engines on site and the 1400 block of P Street NW was closed.
The first tweet from the DC Police went out around 9 pm and initially gave the address as 1418 P Street NW, where CVS is located.
The latest DC Police tweet (@DCPoliceDept ) reads: “2D BUILDING FIRE/1400 14TH ST NW/ NO INJURIES/1400 P ST NW CLOSED/14TH ST NW CLOSED FROM R ST TO RI AVE NW/AVOID AREA.”
By 10:45 pm the last fire truck was preparing to leave the scene and the nearby streets had be reopened to traffic.
