10 PM Saturday: Gun Robbery at 8th and Florida NW

There was a gun robbery at 10 pm on Saturday, June 23, at 8th Street and Florida Avenue NW. According to the police report, the two suspects were on bicycles. The crime occurred just one block from the busy U Street corridor; U Street morphs into Florida Avenue east of 9th Street NW.

There was another gun robbery on June 16 around 5:30 pm just one block north, at 8th and V Streets NW; see Update: Arrest Made in 5:30 PM Gun Robbery at 8th and V NW.

For the area around 9th and Florida NW (within a 500-foot radius), DC Police stats show that the number of gun robberies year-to-date for 2012 is up from last year: four so far this year compared to two last year during the same period. Year to date, the number of robberies not involving a gun in this same area is unchanged from last year: there have been eight since January 1, the same as 2011.
