Reginald Teneyck was sentenced to 11½ years in prison last Thursday for an assault and attempted robbery in January 2012, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. The incident occurred in the 1800 block of Jefferson Place NW, just south of Dupont Circle.

Second District Commander Michael Reese noted at the Dupont Public Safety Forum that Teneyck has been offending in the Dupont area for the past 20 years, although most of his offending was not as violent as the January incident. A 2008 Borderstan article reported on his arrest in a theft from auto case in the 1600 block of O Street NW. He was arrested on the same block for felony destruction of property in August 2011.

Teneyck approached a male sitting in his SUV at about 3:30 pm on January 11 and asked for food or money. The victim ignored this request and then Teneyck went around to the passenger side, punched in the window, and grabbed the victim’s laptop.

The victim and Teneyck struggled inside the vehicle and a passerby helped grab Teneyck’s legs until police arrived. The victim was treated for some lacerations and bruises suffered during the incident. Teneyck was convicted of assault with intent to rob, felony assault, and destruction of property in April. While this incident occurred just south of the Borderstan coverage area, Teneyck has a history of arrests in and around the Borderstan area.

Second District Commander Michael Reese noted at the Dupont Public Safety Forum (see Dupont Safety Forum: Homicides, Bikes, Smartphones, Bias Crime) that Teneyck has been offending in the Dupont area for the past 20 years, although most of his offending was not as violent as the January incident.
