"Bike Accident"

A cyclist and a car collided at 15th & T Street NW. (Tom Hay)

Few details are available, but a cyclist and a car collided around 4 pm on Tuesday afternoon at 15th and T Streets NW. Northbound traffic on 15th was closed for a short while.

The DC Police Department tweeted the incident:

@DCPoliceDept: (1/2) Traffic Alert: Accident involving a cyclist at 15th and T St, NW. Northbound traffic on 15th St is shut down until further notice.

@DCPoliceDept: (2/2) PT is an adult male; he’s going in &out of consciousness/taken to a local hospital. Take EB Swann St,14th St and 16th St/7066.

The two-way bike lanes are on the west side of 15th Street, which is a one-way northbound street at T Street.

  1. From the look of it, I’d say the bike isn’t in the proper bike lanes that they’ve put on 15th street. But I’m sure the driver will get the blame.

  2. The right most lane of 15th street (where the bike is laying) is still marked as a sharrow, and even if it were not, it would be legal for the bicyclist to be in that lane.

    I was at the scene following the accident. I live on that block of T. The cyclist went over the top of the cab, the cab sign on the roof had been knocked off. It’s impossible to tell which lane either one was in prior to the accident. The debris was scattered in the right lane and under cars on that side of the street.

  3. No, looks like the cyclist was on T crossing 15th. Anyone know his condition at this point?
