Today at around 11:30 am a cloud of smoke was spotted above Pizza No. 17 on the 1500 block of 17th Street NW. There was no actual fire damage to the restaurant, and the smoke was apparently the result of some problem with the oven ventilation ducts.

The street was fast filled with fire engines, at least seven, and two ambulances. Pizza No. 17 Owner Payam Yazdani said that he was glad no one was hurt and that there was no actual fire or fire damage. Pizza 17 opened in March 2011.

  1. We were at the dog park when this all went down, and my friend’s dog Ginger was howling up a storm when the fire engines hurried down 17th Street. The fire department’s response was rapid and massive, and that was very, very reassuring.

It’s great to know that nobody was hurt and damage was minimal. And it’s just as great to see such an impressive response.
