Man Sentenced for 2011 U Street Bank Robbery

Kenneth Lewis, 40, was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday for the November 2011 robbery of a U Street NW bank according to a press releasefrom the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He will be on supervised release for three years after he is released from prison. He pled guilty to a federal charge of bank robbery on May 16, 2012.
Lewis entered the City First Bank of DC at 1432 U Street NW the morning of November 9, 2011 and handed the teller a note demanding money. He had one hand in his pocket and the teller believed he might have a gun. She gave him more than $600 in cash and then alerted the security guard who stopped Lewis when he tried to leave the bank. When police arrived, the money and note were both found in Lewis’s pockets.
Lewis was sentenced by Judge Thomas F. Hogan in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
