Parents, residents and community members of Ward 2 are holding a town hall meeting on Tuesday, November 27 at the Francis-Stevens Educational Center (2425 N Street NW).

The meeting is to discuss the proposed closings of Francis-Stevens, as announced by DC Public Schools. The meeting is open to the public and will begin at 6:30 pm.

  • Hi all —
A member of Francis Stevens PTA here.

In case there’s any confusion about the reference to Garrison ES above, Tuesday’s meeting at 2425 N. St NW was called by Francis Stevens PTA and ANC leaders in Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom. The meeting is aimed at mobilizing and hearing from the Francis Stevens community, whose in-boundary community is the West End/Foggy Bottom. Families attend FS from wards throughout the city — including my wee family here in Shaw. To the best of my knowledge, Garrison is not going to be represented in the forum in any official capacity – though everyone who cares about public schools in DC is welcome and invited to attend!

The Francis Stevens community stands by Garrison. Nobody should have their neighborhood school taken away. It is especially short-sighted at this moment, when our Ward is seeing the demographic tide churning out lots of tots and toddlers. The school DCPS has slotted to accept Garrison’s students it going to be over-crowded as a result, and kids will probably have to attend class in trailers. I’ve met a lot of the Garrison leaders and parents and they are incredibly committed to making their neighborhood school a success.
