Mike Isabella, of Graffiato and Bandolero, is bringing his tasty Top Chef-renowned eats to 14th and W Streets NW with his new Greek restaurant, Kapnos, and a more casual sandwich shop, G.
Together, the two eateries will occupy 7,000 square feet at 2201 14th Street NW; Kapnos will seat 160 people, while the smaller G will seat 40. Don’t let G fool you, though — come nighttime it will offer patrons a four-course tasting menu.
Borderstan recently caught up with the press company preparing for the opening of both restaurants to find out some details on the two new ventures. Here’s what one can expect:
Kapnos
- The food: For the menu, Isabella will draw inspiration from Northern Greece to create a variety of spreads, breads, phyllo pies, vegetables and other small plates, including his signature wood-grilled octopus. Dinner will include whole roasted animals, such as lamb, goat, chicken and suckling pig.
- The drinks: Graffiato and Bandolero beverage director Taha Ismail will oversee the Kapnos beverage program. A globally sourced wine list will include an extensive selection from Greece.
- The cooking: Isabella will have two woodfire grills with five rotating spits each and a small wood oven for flat breads. According to the press company, a chef’s table will offer up to 10 guests the opportunity to pre-order a whole spit-roasted animal for the party
- Other details: Kapnos will be open for dinner seven nights a week and weekend brunch. The restaurant will also have a 45-seat outdoor patio.
G Sandwich Shop
- The food: The small-space sandwich shop will serve traditional Italian sandwiches, soups and salads for lunch six days a week. According to the press company, chicken parmesan, veal cutlet, sausage with peppers and meatballs are some of the sandwich fillers Isabella plans to serve by day.
- The tasting menu: At night, G will offer a four-course tasting menu for $40, including a pre-set menu of antipasti, pasta, choice of meat or fish and dessert. The menu will be more traditional Italian than Isabella’s Italian-inspired restaurant, Graffiato.
Both restaurants are in the early stages of construction and there is no set month for opening as of yet.
