Another opening in the neighborhood as John Fulchino and Ann Cashion’s latest spot, Taqueria Nacional, opened its doors yesterday by greeting us with delicious tacos.

After a year of renovations the old Post Office building has become Taqueria Nacional. The 2,600 square-foot, fast-casual restaurant serves up a variety of tacos (think beef, fish chicken, chorizo and lamb) made with organic ingredients. Fulchino also has added a variety of quesadillas and salads to the 14th Street menu, as well as margaritas, beer and agua frescas.

Taqueria Nacional will be open for breakfast starting at 7 am and lunch at 11 am. It will be offering “El Desayuno” served Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to noon. Check their menu here.

Fulchino created a space inspired by traditional Mexican and Cuban colors and designs with nice tiling and beautiful decor.

“I want to make the environment people are eating in feel like an old home in Mexico,” said Fulchino.

The new location will seat approximately 45 inside and 15 to 20 seats on the outdoor patio.

  1. Had the pleasure of hitting this spot up for lunch yesterday. Took me back to my days in Austin, where tacos are a source of pride. I got a decent lunch for under $7 and a seat at an open air bartop. Can’t complain and this is a solid “On The Cheap” option compared to all the expensive “tapas style” places across the street.

  2. How long until they open for dinner? Just breakfast and lunch in this area….I am surprised.

  3. Went for breakfast on this past Saturday….no coffee!! I know there is a time needed to iron out all the various challenges to a new restaurant but morning coffee should never be a problem….other than that…good luck to the new owners and staff!…nice place.

  4. Not worth it. Beautiful well done venue. However food is mediocre at best. Avoid horchata. Expensive. Bad service ordering, disorganized. Food was very mediocre. Tacos El Chilango are better by leaps and bounds.

Pictures of Cuba not Mexico in bathrooms. I will not return.

  5. The atmosphere here is very nice! Gave you a feeling of staying all day. However I had work to do, this old post office had me posted. Food was very good…for somewhere that just opened ? Wow! I have been back three times and loving it! I don’t think they are geared for breakfast so to speak….but they are good. They should definitely move in this direction to cover all customers well…BIG THUMBS UP!

  6. Found it by accident while walking past all the new places where Shaw used to be. Decent tostada on an excellent crispy tortilla. Nice space; I hope it isn’t too far off 14th to get noticed.
